Description
Shortstop 2SC (22.3% Paclobutrazol)
Shortstop is a systemic plant growth regulator that slows above ground vegetative growth in trees. Effective for: Slowing tree growth, reducing pruning frequency, reducing drought stress, reducing construction damage, enhancing fine root hair growth
*1 Gallon makes 12 gallons of diluted mixture
Why Use Shortstop 2SC?
Shortstop slows aboveground vegetative growth by inhibiting gibberellin biosynthesis for use on trees. It is most effective when applied to the soil near the base of the tree either by soil injection or with basal soil drench. Applications of Shortstop 2SC benefit your trees by redistributing energy to increase root production, altering leaf physiology to reduce water vapor loss, and increasing the production of chlorophyll to aid in the process of photosynthesis.
- Slows the growth of ornamental trees
- Reduces pruning frequency
- Increases drought resistance
- Enhances fine root hair growth in trees
Results
Studies performed at Michigan State University have shown Shortstop (now branded as Shortstop 2SC*) to aid in tree survival and halt defoliation during water shortage due to severe drought. 80% suppression in plant growth was reported, and shrubs that were treated with Shortstop only needed to be pruned once per season, as opposed to untreated shrubs, that needed pruning 2-3 times per season. Treating with Shortstop can cut labor costs from manual pruning, saving time and money for businesses that provide pruning services.
